Aunty Paulette is a master featherwork artisan. Her hulu lei pua class will cover how to make a Marigold style lei. It includes a kit and all supplies. If you've taken her class before, please bring your trimmers and measuring tool. You and your lei will be showcased at Saturday's Ho`ike and Hawaiian Festival.

In this Papa Lei Haku I, students with no lei experience will learn different techniques in the art of lei making in "haku" style. This style uses the technique of braiding or plaiting. A beautiful accessory to wear at the Ho`ike and Festival on Saturday.

Flowers and materials will be provided. All ages and genders welcome. Class includes breakfast only.

`Ohe kapala is a Hawaiian implement used in the final stages of making kapa. The repetitive patterns of `ohe kapala gives the kapa its surface designs in the decoration of Hawaiian barkcloth.

This all day class will cover the process of kapamaking, kapa designs and motifs, natural dyes and plants, creating designs, carving `ohe kapala, and finally printing with your `ohe kapala on a kihei (rectangular shawl). You and your kihei will be showcased at Saturday's Ho`ike and Hawaiian Festival.

Learn the fascinating history of the Hawaiians in the 19th century fur trade of the northwest, and the crucial roles they played in helping to operate the Hudson's Bay Company Fort Vancouver while living in "Kanaka Village." This walking tour will be led by National Park Service Archaeologist, Bob Cromwell.

Bob will tour you around the recent archaeological excavations in the Village, and present a perspective on how the science of archaeology can teach us about the daily lives of the Hawaiians and the multitudes of other peoples who lived in Vancouver's first neighborhood. The tour will finish in one of the recently reconstructed Village houses, to show you a representation of the daily living quarters that most Hawaiians resided in while living in the Village. The walking tour is over 1/2 mile over mostly level, but potentially uneven ground, so wear good walking shoes and bring drinking water.

Field Trip includes breakfast prior to Class. Participants should meet in the lobby at the Red Lion Hotel on the River at 9:15am and transportation will be provided to the Fort.

Class minimum of 10 must be met or be subject to cancellation.
